Services for children and young people affected by domestic violence and abuse

We offer support for children and young people aged 5 – 17 who have experienced domestic violence and abuse.

Referrals can come via parents or other agencies who have concerns about what children have witnessed/experienced.

We offer an intial meeting with a parent present to discuss the support needed and what we are able to offer.

The aim of the support the child or young person will receive is to offer a chance to talk about feelings, have feelings and experiences acknowledged and to allow children and young people a voice.

We intially offer six sessions, which are based around the needs of the child or young person based on their experiences and how they are expressing themselves emotionally
and physically. Once these issues have been identified then they can be addressed in the sessions.

We encourage the children and young people to learn about risks and to be involved in their own safety planning.

After the intial six sessions we then review, to see if the child or young person requires more support, or if they need referring to another agency, or are able to continue
with their life unsupported.

The outcomes of the work we do include: increase in positive relationships at home, better sleeping routines, improved behaviour at school and reduced alcohol and drug
mis-use.
